The Jane Austen Society in the U.K.; and the Jane Austen Centre in Bath

The Jane Austen Society was founded in 1940 and became a registered charity in September 1994. Its Annual General Meeting is held at Chawton in July. The Society holds many interesting events and has produced a large number of excellent publications. If you are interested in becoming a member, go for further information to the Society's website by clicking on: here.

A Jane Austen Centre was opened at 40 Gay Street, Bath in 1999, when I visited and the admission charge was £4 and the opening hours were 9.30 - 5.30 (April to September). I believe it is now open all the year round and the admission charge in 2016 had reached about £11 (but with concessions). In the same building, there is also a Regency Tea Room and Gift Shop. For more information, try: this website.

A specialist bookshop for works about Jane Austen is P. and G. Wells Ltd., 11 College Street, Winchester, SO23 9LX. You can read about it by clicking on: here.
